Singapore – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from Indonesians living in Singapore, including dozens of elementary school students and university students, as he arrived for a state visit to the city-state on Sunday night (June 15).
Shortly after arriving at his hotel, President Prabowo was greeted by two Indonesian children dressed in traditional Nusantara attire, standing proudly at the entrance. Not far behind, a group of Indonesian university students had gathered, eager to welcome their president.
With a broad smile, Prabowo engaged warmly with them—shaking hands, chatting briefly, and graciously posing for selfies.
“Thank you, thank you,” he said, as he greeted them one by one.
Inside the hotel, the atmosphere grew livelier as dozens of students from Sekolah Indonesia Singapura (SIS), grades 3 through 6, lined up neatly. Wearing SIS’s signature blue batik uniforms and holding small red-and-white Indonesian flags, the children burst into a cheerful chant:
“Welcome, Sir! Welcome, Sir! Welcome, Mr. President!”
Prabowo beamed at the spirited greeting. He approached the students, shaking hands with each one, exchanging friendly words, and happily posing for group photos.
“How old are you?” Prabowo asked a group of students.
“Ten [years old],” they replied.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” he followed up.
“A soldier!” one boy shouted excitedly.
“A soldier?” Prabowo repeated with a smile.
One student, Nailun, managed to take a photo with the President. “I was nervous, but I’m really happy,” she said. “It’s a memory I’ll never forget—meeting Mr. Prabowo. I hope he leads our country well. Keep up the spirit, Sir!”
Earlier that evening, President Prabowo was welcomed at Paya Lebar Air Base by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who greeted him personally at the foot of the aircraft stairs—an honor that underscored the strength and respect in bilateral ties between the two nations.
