Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto praised Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his successful efforts in mediating the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, which led to the establishment of a ceasefire. The commendation was delivered during their bilateral meeting at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday (July 29).
“First and foremost, I would like to express my congratulations for your leadership, Dato’ Seri, as Chair of ASEAN. You have succeeded in mediation efforts and in securing a ceasefire in the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. This is something we should all be grateful for. Thank you,” said President Prabowo.
He further affirmed that Indonesia stands ready to support Prime Minister Anwar, not only in his role as head of government in Malaysia, but also as Chair of ASEAN.
“We are ready to assist wherever needed, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim—not only as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, but also as the current Chair of ASEAN,” Prabowo stated.
The President urged ASEAN nations to uphold the principle of peaceful resolution in addressing emerging regional conflicts—through consultation, negotiation, and deliberation.
“At the core, we must always resolve our issues through consultation and mediation—I repeat—consultation, negotiation, and consensus,” he emphasized.
President Prabowo reiterated that mediation remains the most effective path toward conflict resolution, especially for countries in Southeast Asia that share common cultural and historical roots.
“I believe this is our shared principle—as nations with similar backgrounds, cultures, and religions, united by a common heritage,” he added.
President Prabowo was accompanied in welcoming Prime Minister Anwar by several senior members of the Red and White Cabinet, including: Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono.
