President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, affirmed that China is not merely a trade partner but a strategic brother to Indonesia.
He made the statement during his remarks at the Business Forum Dinner held in Jakarta on Saturday evening (May 24), where he welcomed Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
“I view the relationship between Indonesia and China as a highly strategic, critically important, and profoundly promising bilateral partnership—one that can shape peace and stability in the region,” Prabowo said.
The President highlighted that China is currently Indonesia’s largest trading partner.
“Our trade volume now exceeds 130 billion U.S. dollars annually. We see China as an immensely strategic partner in the development of our industrial and technological sectors,” he noted.
He illustrated this point by citing the success of several Chinese-led projects in Indonesia, including the Jakarta–Bandung high-speed rail, various industrial zones, and downstream nickel processing operations.
“This also includes the development of large-scale industrial and technological projects that I had the opportunity to see firsthand during a recent exhibition,” Prabowo added.
He emphasized that the robust trade and investment ties between the two nations are a testament to their shared commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous future. Prabowo concluded by reaffirming his determination to safeguard and further elevate the relationship between Indonesia and China.
