Jakarta — A cheerful and high-spirited atmosphere filled the courtyard of Jati 03 Public Elementary School (SDN Jati 03) in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Wednesday morning (May 7), as students and teachers welcomed two very special guests: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and global philanthropist Bill Gates.
The visit was part of an effort to observe firsthand the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), as well as to see the school’s teaching and learning environment in action. Upon arrival, Prabowo and Gates were met with beaming smiles, joyful cheers, and waves from students excited to see them in person.
The two dignitaries warmly greeted the children, stopping by several classrooms to chat with students and witness the distribution of the nutritious meals—now a key part of the national MBG initiative.
For Alya, a third-grade student, the moment was unforgettable. Overwhelmed with excitement, she was thrilled to meet both President Prabowo and Bill Gates in person.
“I’m so happy! I’ve been a fan for a long time—I even have his autograph,” she said shyly, her face lighting up with joy.
Another student, Azmi, couldn’t stop raving about the meal he received that day.
“It was really good! We had crispy chicken, oranges, pumpkin stew, and sweet soy tempeh. So delicious—I finished everything!” he exclaimed.
Beyond the food, the MBG program has made a real impact on students’ daily lives. Syauqi, a sixth-grader, shared how the initiative is helping his family manage expenses—and even allowing him to save money.
“It was amazing to be that close to the President. The program really helps—we can save more because we get free nutritious meals,” he said.
The visit offered a glimpse into how government programs are directly improving the lives of children at the grassroots level. For the students of SDN Jati 03, the day was about more than healthy food or a special classroom visit—it was about hope, inspiration, and the feeling that the world is paying attention.
