Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, underscored the importance of maintaining composure and pursuing coordinated, strategic diplomacy in the face of rising global challenges.
Opening the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the Presidential Office in the Jakarta Presidential Palace complex on Wednesday (August 6), President Prabowo drew attention to the growing number of international conflicts and the economic pressures facing the global community.
Among the key issues he raised was the impact of recent U.S. tariff policies, which have added to worldwide economic uncertainty. President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia has responded to these developments with calm and pragmatism.
“We are now also facing global geo-economic challenges, including uncertainties triggered by tariffs imposed by the United States. We are responding with calm,” he said.
He expressed appreciation for the government’s economic team, commending their ability to navigate these complex issues through strong inter-ministerial coordination.
“I thank our economic team. I’m grateful to all of you for working cohesively, like a true team. Everyone is fulfilling their responsibilities,” he added.
President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia’s diplomatic approach is guided by rational dialogue and national interest—not by emotional reaction.
“We negotiate. We deliberate. We do not act out of emotion. We are not easily provoked. We understand that our national interests are paramount,” he stated.
He further affirmed that the government’s fundamental duty is to safeguard all Indonesians, particularly workers and their families. Every policy decision, he noted, must be grounded in that responsibility.
“The Indonesian government’s mandate is to protect its people—our workers and their families. And in that spirit, we believe we have reached the best possible position under current conditions,” he concluded.
