PCO: Danantara was born to end the Indonesian Paradox

Jakarta, 24 February 2025 – The government established the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) as one of the instruments to accelerate development that will end the paradoxical situation in Indonesia.

Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), stated that Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, the owner of the longest coastline in the world, with 17 thousand islands, and one of the largest tropical forest cover in the world. Indonesia has abundant natural resources, has the largest nickel deposit in the world, is the ruler of the world palm oil market, and is rich in marine and fishery products. Therefore, the Indonesian people must be able to prosper and deserve to be a rich country.

‘This is the government’s endeavour to resolve the Indonesian paradox, as written by President Prabowo Subianto in his book. There is no need to argue anymore, our nation is rich, we should be more prosperous. But in reality, until the 80th year of Indonesia’s existence, there are still inequalities, there are still people who are poor, there are still people who cannot eat, there are still areas that are lagging behind in development. This must all be resolved immediately. So the paradox of Indonesia must be resolved,’ said Hasan, Monday (24/2/2025).

Hasan said that with the birth of Danantara, an investment agency that consolidates the strength and wealth of the country, Indonesia will focus more on controlling strategic industries. Hasan emphasised that control of natural resources is mandated by Article 33 of the 1945 Constitution, which states in Paragraph 3, ‘The land and water and the natural resources contained therein shall be controlled by the state and utilised for the greatest prosperity of the people’.

Unfortunately, according to Hasan, so far most of Indonesia’s natural resources are exported raw, so that the added value and benefits are not maximally enjoyed by the Indonesian people themselves.

‘Danantara will finance its own strategic industries, including the downstreaming of nickel and cobalt, the development of artificial intelligence, the creation of oil refineries and supporting industries, which will support Indonesia to jump to a developed country with 8 per cent economic growth,’ said Hasan.

Hasan added that the launch of Danantara is a gift for Indonesia’s 80th birthday, which falls this year. With the birth of Danantara, the wealth and strength of State-Owned Enterprises are consolidated in one investment management entity.

Danantara will manage IDR 14,000 trillion of Indonesia’s assets, making it not only an investment management institution, but also an instrument to drive development to achieve the ideals of Indonesia Emas 2045, a developed country with equitable welfare.

‘Downstreaming is a support for progress, this is an instrument for accelerating development, which has a lot or emphasis on the downstreaming sector,’ said Hasan.
