Serdang Bedagai, July 30, 2025 — Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), has called on North Sumatra Province to accelerate the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program by expediting the construction of more Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs).
Hasan made the statement during his inspection visit to SPPG Cempedak Lobang, located in Serdang Bedagai, North Sumatra, on Wednesday (July 30).
According to Hasan, one of the most pressing tasks for the government is to respond to the strong public demand and enthusiasm for the MBG Program, particularly from communities that have not yet received its benefits.
“That’s why collaboration between the central government, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and regional leaders is crucial to ensure that school children can soon receive free nutritious meals,” Hasan emphasized.
He also encouraged regional governments to actively support the development of SPPGs, especially in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost areas (3T regions).
“Substantial support from local governments is needed—both in determining suitable SPPG locations and in driving the construction efforts, especially in the 3T regions,” he added.
Beyond governmental coordination, Hasan highlighted the importance of private sector engagement in supporting SPPG development through public-private partnerships.
During the same visit, Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, expressed optimism that 200 SPPGs would be operational in the province in the near future.
He noted that the central government has set a target of 1,732 SPPGs for North Sumatra. As of now, 77 units have been established, and the number is expected to increase steadily.
“In two weeks, we expect that number to rise to 89, with 12 additional units ready and awaiting activation of their virtual accounts. In a month, we plan to add another 29 units. Judging by the weekly progress, we are confident North Sumatra can meet the target in the near future,” Bobby said.
He also stated that each regency and municipality in the province is expected to build a minimum of three SPPGs, as part of the regional government’s contribution—not including those established by private partners.
“That target applies to units built by local governments, excluding those constructed by the private sector,” Bobby emphasized.
