Jakarta — During the inauguration ceremony for Indonesia’s newly elected President and Vice President, Joko Widodo, the outgoing President, proudly applauded Prabowo Subianto as his name was mentioned by MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani. The moment took place at the Nusantara Building in the MPR/DPR/DPD complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (October 20), marking the beginning of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming’s term as the President and Vice President for 2024–2029.
“Honorable President-elect for the 2024–2029 term, General (Ret.) H. Prabowo Subianto,” stated Ahmad Muzani, prompting Jokowi to lead the room in a round of enthusiastic applause, followed by the guests in attendance.
Earlier, Jokowi and Prabowo entered the Nusantara Hall together, accompanied by outgoing Vice President Ma’ruf Amin. Walking side by side, they acknowledged the media before taking their seats for the ceremony.
The inauguration was attended by members of the MPR, DPR, DPD, and several distinguished international guests. Prabowo noted the significance of the event in his first speech as President, highlighting the presence of many international dignitaries.
“Today we are greatly honored by the attendance of 19 heads of state and government, along with 15 special envoys from friendly nations,” said President Prabowo in his inaugural address.
Following the formal proceedings, Prabowo personally welcomed the international guests in the lobby of the Nusantara Building at the DPR RI complex, cementing the moment as a historic transition of power. (RR)
