Solo — President Prabowo Subianto declared that Indonesia’s international stature is on the rise, as reflected in growing interest from foreign governments inviting the country to participate in their national celebrations.
In a speech at the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Congress on Sunday (July 20), Prabowo expressed pride in the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), which made history by leading the military parade during France’s Bastille Day on July 14, 2025—marking the first time Indonesia has played such a prominent role in a European national celebration.
“Did you see it on July 14? Indonesian troops led the military parade on France’s national day. That was a first for us in Europe. A foreign country let us lead the parade, gave us a place of honor—right at the front. Remarkable,” Prabowo said.
He also praised the discipline and performance of the Indonesian troops who participated in the Bastille Day parade.
“What made me proud was how our troops marched. Did you see it? They marched really well. As a former soldier, I was proud. Our young men didn’t embarrass us in France—they made us proud.”
Following that historic appearance, Prabowo said several other nations have expressed interest in having Indonesia represented in their own national day celebrations.
“Now the requests are pouring in. Other countries are asking: ‘Can Indonesia join our national day?’ India has asked. France asked again. Now Pakistan is asking.”
The president’s remarks underscore Indonesia’s expanding diplomatic footprint and the growing esteem in which the country is held by the international community—not just in political and economic forums, but on the world’s ceremonial and cultural stages as well.
