Indonesia Urges BRICS Nations to Boost Imports of Indonesian Products

Rio de Janeiro — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto participated in the BRICS Summit for the first time as head of state of a newly admitted full member on Sunday (July 6) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, stated that one of the key outcomes of the summit was a renewed emphasis on strengthening international economic cooperation.
Airlangga explained that the summit concluded with a Leaders’ Declaration outlining four major points of agreement.
“One of the main outcomes was the Leaders’ Declaration, which includes several important points regarding the strengthening of multilateralism and the reform of global governance,” Airlangga said.
He highlighted that the second point in the declaration was of particular significance to Indonesia.
“The second point focuses on promoting peace and security, international stability, and deepening international economic, trade, and financial cooperation. This is especially important for Indonesia, as we hope the BRICS framework can help expand market access for Indonesian products,” he emphasized.
This year’s summit was attended by the founding BRICS members—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—as well as newly admitted countries including Indonesia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
