Rio de Janeiro — The arrival of President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto in Rio de Janeiro has sparked renewed optimism among Indonesians living in Brazil. His participation in the BRICS Summit is seen as ushering in fresh confidence about Indonesia’s role on the global stage.

“We’re definitely happy, very happy. We wanted to meet him again because last year we welcomed him here in Rio, though it was at a different venue,” said Rani, an Indonesian national, expressing her pride and emotional connection to her country’s leader.

For members of Indonesia’s diaspora in Brazil, this was more than just a ceremonial visit—it strengthened their sense of Indonesia’s growing influence after officially joining BRICS as a full member.

“Indonesia has just joined BRICS, so we hope we can contribute many positive things for our own country and for the other BRICS members,” she said with optimism.

Rani also shared her personal hopes for President Prabowo’s leadership to deliver meaningful progress for the nation.

“I truly hope that the President can lead Indonesia toward greater advancement in the years ahead,” she added.

Preparations to greet the President had been underway well in advance, reflecting the pride of Indonesia’s diaspora in supporting their country’s active role in international forums.

“We arrived here several days ago, and today we’ve been here since six in the morning—so yes, we’re very excited,” she said, smiling.

She also spoke of how the Indonesian community in Brazil hopes the country’s BRICS membership will open more avenues for collaboration and strengthen ties of friendship.
