Bangkok — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, called for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Myanmar during his visit to Thailand on Monday (May 19). According to Prabowo, Indonesia and Thailand share a strong mutual commitment on these international issues.
“We are committed to international, regional, and global matters. Indonesia and Thailand share a deep concern and a joint commitment to addressing these issues constructively. We call for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine and a resolution to the conflict in Myanmar,” said Prabowo.
“Indonesia appreciates and values Thailand’s constructive role, particularly in engaging neighboring countries to pursue a peaceful solution in Myanmar and in facilitating dialogue among all parties,” he continued.
Prabowo reiterated the importance of inclusive national dialogue as a pathway toward lasting peace and stability in Myanmar. “We also emphasize the importance of preserving ASEAN unity and centrality,” he stated.
In response, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra expressed her gratitude for Indonesia’s continued support. She also noted Thailand’s intention to collaborate with Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair, in efforts to restore peace in Myanmar.
“Thank you once again for your friendship, and I look forward to visiting Indonesia in the near future,” said Paetongtarn.
