Beijing – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto laid a wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, on Saturday (November 9), in a traditional gesture of respect honoring China’s national heroes.
This floral tribute, commonly performed by visiting heads of state, serves as a symbol of reverence for China’s heroes. The ceremony followed Prabowo’s bilateral meetings with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC).
Upon his arrival at the Tiananmen Monument, Prabowo was welcomed by China’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sun Weidong, with whom he exchanged greetings and a handshake.
“Thank you, thank you, xie xie,” Prabowo said.
Accompanying Prabowo at the ceremony were Indonesia’s Ambassador to China Djauhari Oratmangun, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Deputy Minister of Education and Technology Stella Christie, Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
The wreath-laying was accompanied by the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya, and China’s national anthem.
“Thank you very much,” Prabowo expressed as he was escorted by the Chinese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and other dignitaries.
After paying his respects, Prabowo proceeded to his official vehicle and departed Tiananmen Square. (RR)
