St. Petersburg – A heartwarming and humorous moment unfolded in the lobby of a hotel in St. Petersburg, where President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto is staying during his state visit to Russia. On Wednesday (June 18), a young boy—son of an Indonesian-Russian couple—boldly asked the President for a Lego set, and to everyone’s surprise, the request was granted on the spot.
Upon his arrival, President Prabowo was warmly greeted by a crowd of Indonesian citizens living in Russia, including students, migrant workers, and members of the diaspora. Amid the enthusiastic crowd, Prabowo approached two young children belonging to Ambar Rukmi, an Indonesian woman from Solo who now resides in Russia.
“What’s his name?” asked Prabowo.
“Vladimir,” replied Ambar, holding her child.
“How many kids do you have?” Prabowo continued.
“Two, sir,” she answered briefly.
One of Ambar’s sons instantly captured the President’s attention with his charming demeanor and innocent behavior.
“You’re very handsome,” said Prabowo, gently touching the boy’s cheek.
Then came the unexpected question from the child:
“Excuse me, do you speak English?”
Prabowo laughed and responded warmly, “Yeah, and you?”
Without missing a beat, the boy declared, “I want Lego.”
The innocent remark sparked laughter from the crowd, and Prabowo wasted no time turning to his personal secretary, Rizky Irmansyah.
“You want Lego? Get this boy Lego! But also for your brother, yeah,” he instructed, pointing to the younger sibling being carried.
The touching exchange became a cherished memory for Ambar and her husband.
“President Prabowo spoke with my son, and when my son asked for Lego, he responded immediately. I was truly moved,” said Ambar afterward. “My one hope for President Prabowo is that he considers establishing an Indonesian Consulate in St. Petersburg.”
The spontaneous gesture not only brought smiles but also underscored the President’s approachable and compassionate demeanor—winning over hearts beyond official protocol.
