Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on Monday (Aug. 25) conferred state decorations on 141 distinguished figures from diverse fields, ranging from public officials and academics to professionals and artists. The ceremony was held at the State Palace in Jakarta.
The honors were presented as a mark of the nation’s gratitude for the recipients’ dedication and service in their respective domains.
“On behalf of the state and the nation, I would once again like to express my deepest gratitude for your contributions. For those whose parents are no longer with us, we extend our appreciation to their families as well. May your service and legacy endure for future generations,” Prabowo said.
Among the honorees was Carina Citra Dewi Joe, a scientist who holds the patent for the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine. She received the Bintang Jasa Utama (Primary Service Star) for her contributions to biotechnology and global health, including her role in developing a formula for mass vaccine production.
“I want to thank President Prabowo for recognizing contributions in science. To me, this is especially significant in the field of health, because it reflects the importance of national health resilience. During the pandemic, vaccines were essential to mitigate the crisis and protect both the public and the country,” Carina said.
Recognition also went to Sulaiman Miharja, better known by his stage name Jaja Miharja. Since 1965, he has been a staple of Indonesian entertainment, known for his comedy and distinctive style. He was awarded the Bintang Budaya Paramadarma (Paramadarma Cultural Star).
“Wow, what an honor. This is the first time, I think, that artists are really being recognized—and by the President himself, no less. He even told me, ‘Keep going, sir!’ Thank you, Mr. President. I will carry on with my work the best I can. Whatever it takes!” Jaja exclaimed, closing with his trademark comedic flair.
Jaja expressed his gratitude for what he saw as greater attention to the arts under Prabowo’s administration.
“Thank you, Mr. President. The President has given attention to artists—especially me. This medal proves it,” he said, proudly holding up his newly received decoration.
