Jakarta — President Prabowo Subianto has expressed optimism that Indonesia will not need to import rice in 2025. This hope was conveyed during his remarks at the Plenary Cabinet Meeting in Jakarta on Monday (2/12).
“There is a strong possibility and my belief that by 2025, we will no longer import rice, and our reserves will be sufficient,” said Prabowo.
Prabowo’s confidence stems from the rising trend in food production. “Our food production is increasing, and our food reserves may be the largest in recent years. I believe we are approaching 2 million tons in our warehouses,” he explained.
Prabowo attributed this achievement to the collaboration of various stakeholders involved in food management. He also expressed gratitude for the hard work of cabinet members and agency heads.
“My appreciation goes to the Minister of Agriculture and his team, Bulog, the National Food Agency, and all entities under the supervision of the Minister of SOEs. Thank you for the steps we’ve taken by the end of 2024,” Prabowo stated.
Achieving food self-sufficiency is one of Prabowo’s flagship programs. Several measures have been implemented, including securing the nation’s rice reserves.
In addition to food security, Prabowo also acknowledged other pro-people policies initiated by his ministers, such as reducing ticket prices ahead of Christmas and New Year holidays, eliminating bad debts for MSMEs, and increasing the minimum wage for workers. (RR)
