“The House leadership has received and responded to the concerns raised by student executive bodies (BEM) and other student organizations. We have also conveyed their demands to the government, which has agreed to meet them tomorrow.
I spoke earlier with the State Secretary, but I do not yet know exactly who in the government will receive them. Some of the issues the students raised fall under the so-called “17 + 8” agenda. During today’s meeting, we assured them that the DPR will conduct a comprehensive review—covering allowances and institutional transparency—as part of that agenda. Tomorrow, faction leaders will meet to align positions and reach consensus.
House leadership has also sent a letter to the Secretariat General instructing that suspended members must not be granted parliamentary facilities, including salaries and other benefits. We explained to students that the Asset Confiscation Bill is interconnected with several other laws and must avoid overlap. Once revisions to the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) are complete, deliberations on the Asset Confiscation Bill will follow.
The KUHAP revision is still open to public input, but we have asked Commission III leadership to respect deadlines, as consultations have been extensive and lengthy. We hope the KUHAP bill will be finalized before the end of this session so we can move directly to deliberating the Asset Confiscation Bill.
Comprehensive reforms in the DPR will be led by Speaker Puan Maharani to build a legislature that is more transparent and accountable. It is the collective resolve of all members to learn from past events and make them the basis for shared evaluation going forward.”
