Doctors Welcome Prabowo’s Plan to Establish 30 New Medical Schools Across Indonesia

Jakarta — President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Integrated Service Building and National Institute of Neuroscience (INN) at the Mahar Mardjono National Brain Center Hospital (RS PON) in Jakarta on Tuesday (Aug. 26).

The inauguration was warmly received by young doctors working at the hospital. The government’s broader plan to build 30 new medical schools and 500 high-quality hospitals within the next four years also garnered strong support.

Emergency room physician Dr. Ana described President Prabowo’s initiative as a crucial step to address Indonesia’s shortage of doctors.

“I think it’s a very good idea. We all know that the world is facing a shortage of doctors. So with this plan from the President, we should give our full support, because the intention is truly noble,” Dr. Ana said at the event.

She also emphasized her personal commitment to continue providing the best possible care for patients.

“For me personally, it’s a source of pride. I hope this new building, along with the services we provide, will benefit the Indonesian people,” she added.

Similarly, Dr. Lani, a pathologist at RS PON, expressed her pride and appreciation. She noted that the new facility, coupled with the government’s ambitious plan, would enhance both the quality of medical services and health research.

“I feel happy and proud, especially since we’ve been serving here for more than 10 years—from when the hospital first opened to what it has become today. Hopefully, this will help improve public health and strengthen research in community health,” she said.
