Jakarta — Monsignor Antonius Subianto Bunjamin, Chair of the Presidium of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI), urged Indonesians to pray for and support President Prabowo Subianto’s administration in its mission to advance the nation and fulfill the hopes of its people.
“Let us start with ourselves by offering support to the government, community leaders, and cultural figures who are working together to advance Indonesia,” Mgr. Antonius said during his speech at the 2024 National Christmas Celebration in Jakarta on Saturday (December 28).
He highlighted persistent challenges in Indonesia, including injustice, poverty, intolerance, human trafficking, gambling and predatory lending practices, and environmental degradation.
“Let us journey to Bethlehem, where God is present, so that we may remain optimistic in bringing light and hope to darkness and despair. Let us foster love, brotherhood, and compassion amidst the struggles and conflicts of life,” he emphasized.
Mgr. Antonius encouraged the congregation to embody compassion and spread love to others, especially those who are vulnerable.
“Let us make our hearts a Bethlehem, a place where God can dwell,” he urged.
He also prayed for the government, led by President Prabowo and the Merah Putih Cabinet, to transform Indonesia into a new Bethlehem.
“May the light of brotherhood and compassion radiate from the Indonesian government alongside the Merah Putih Cabinet to illuminate the nation and address its shadows of darkness,” he said.
Mgr. Antonius concluded by calling on the congregation to support the government in creating a brighter future for Indonesia.
“Let us pray for and support the government to become a new Bethlehem that dispels darkness in all aspects of life. May we all work together to guard our hearts, minds, words, and actions, so we continue to glorify and praise God,” he said.
