Jakarta, July 28, 2025 — The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) will recruit workers for the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) from among individuals in extreme and general poverty (deciles 1 and 2), as part of a broader effort to promote local employment.
According to Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the National Nutrition Agency, at least 30% of the 47 personnel in each SPPG will be drawn from underprivileged households.
“This follows the directive of the President, who emphasized that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program must contribute to employment generation. With this policy, BGN hopes to significantly support job absorption, particularly for families in the lowest economic deciles,” said Redy in Jakarta on Monday (July 28).
Redy further stated that to date, a total of 2,378 SPPG units have been established, in partnership with 6,076 local economic institutions serving as suppliers. These include cooperatives, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes/BUMDesma), and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
“Currently, 93,572 local community members are involved as volunteers in the SPPG program,” Redy reported.
As of today, the MBG Program has reached 7,444,238 beneficiaries across the country.
The breakdown of beneficiaries by category is as follows: Early Childhood Education (PAUD)/Kindergarten (TK)/Islamic Kindergarten (RA): 433,480, Elementary School (SD)/Islamic Elementary (MI): 3,074,451, Junior High School (SMP)/Islamic Junior High (MTs): 1,991,877, Senior High/Vocational School (SMA/SMK)/Islamic Senior High (MA/MAK): 1,624,041, Islamic boarding school students (santri): 34,741, Community-based learning centers (PKBM) and special needs schools (SLB): 13,059, Seminaries: 795, Pregnant women: 33,103, Breastfeeding mothers: 56,909, Toddlers: 176,926, and People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat) students: 4,856
To accelerate the program, Redy announced that BGN will launch an additional 2,401 SPPG units within the next 10 days, bringing the total to 4,788 operational units. “This means that within the next 10 days, BGN will be serving approximately 15 million beneficiaries nationwide,” Redy concluded.
