Australian PM: Indonesia Key to Indo-Pacific Prosperity and Stability

Jakarta —  Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese affirmed Indonesia’s pivotal role in the prosperity, security, and stability of the Indo-Pacific region during a joint statement following his bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Thursday (May 15).

“I am here in Indonesia for my first bilateral meeting because no relationship is more important to Australia than our relationship with Indonesia,” said Albanese. “Indonesia is vital to the prosperity, security, and stability of the Indo-Pacific.”

Albanese highlighted Indonesia’s significance in global and regional dynamics, noting that it is not only the fourth most populous country but also on track to become the fifth-largest economy in the world by the end of the next decade.

“It’s no coincidence that two years ago, I launched Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 right here in Jakarta. This is the fastest-growing region in human history, and Indonesia is at the heart of that growth,” he added.
