Canberra – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed his attendance at the upcoming inauguration of Indonesia’s President-elect Prabowo Subianto for the 2024-2029 term, scheduled for October 20th.
This statement was made following Prabowo Subianto’s official work visit to Australia, where he serves as the Minister of Defense. The visit took place in Canberra on Tuesday (20/8). During this visit, Prabowo also met with Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Richard Marles.
“I look forward to collaborating with you, President-elect Prabowo, to attend your inauguration in October. There is no relationship more important than that between our two great nations,” Albanese stated.
Albanese expressed his respect for Prabowo’s visit to Australia as both the president-elect and the minister of defense, congratulating him on his significant electoral victory.
“Once again, I congratulate you on your significant first-round win. The fact that no second round was needed is an extraordinary achievement,” said Albanese.
“I hope to build on our friendship and continue the strong relationship I had with President Jokowi following your election,” he added.
Albanese also expressed confidence that the collaborative steps taken with the previous president, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), would continue under Prabowo’s administration.
“The steps that President Jokowi and I have taken together towards a deeper economic relationship will form the foundation for the work I know will continue under your administration,” Albanese remarked.
At the same meeting, Prabowo expressed great appreciation for the good relations and friendship between Indonesia and Australia, particularly regarding his achievements as the president-elect to continue Indonesia’s leadership.
“Prime Minister Albanese was the first to congratulate me by phone, the day after the general elections in Indonesia, on February 15th. This is a sign of the friendship and good relationship between us, and I highly value this as an Indonesian,” Prabowo shared.
Prabowo mentioned that he would continue the positive relationship between Indonesia and Australia through the policies implemented by President Jokowi, especially in the economic sector.
“Of course, I will continue with President Joko Widodo’s general policies where Australia plays a very important role for us in various fields, particularly in economics. We want to see more Australian participation in our economy,” Prabowo stated. (RR)
