Singapore – The President-elect for the 2024-2029 term and Indonesian Defense Minister, Prabowo Subianto, received direct congratulations on his electoral victory from the President of Ukraine, H.E. Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This exchange occurred during their meeting at the global defense forum, The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, in Singapore on Saturday (1/6).
“I appreciate your time and I remember my first phone call with you, and I want to congratulate you on your victory in the election,” Zelenskyy told Prabowo.
Prabowo responded to these remarks, appreciating the meeting and thanking Zelenskyy for his willingness to meet.
“Warm greetings and appreciation to the President of Ukraine for today’s meeting initiative, especially to discuss defense matters,” said Prabowo.
Subsequently, they discussed defense cooperation, with both parties desiring collaboration in the defense industry through technology transfer. Prabowo affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening a robust and mutually beneficial defense relationship with Ukraine.
The meeting also addressed global and regional security challenges, with both sides emphasizing the importance of maintaining international peace and security amid ongoing conflicts and terrorist threats. Both countries agreed on the need for peaceful dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
At the end of the meeting, both emphasized the urgency of providing humanitarian aid in Gaza and ensuring access to affected populations in conflict zones.
