Jakarta — Hundreds of small business vendors turned Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) area into a lively food festival on Sunday (Aug. 17), as part of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day celebrations.
Brought together by the Ministry of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, the vendors offered a wide variety of free meals to the public, adding to the spirit of the national holiday. The ministry shared the festivities in a video posted on its official Instagram account, @kementerianumkm.
“Through the spirit of sharing, the government is not only serving delicious food but also energizing the small business economy. When people are happy, small businesses thrive—and Indonesia grows stronger,” the ministry wrote.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and togetherness, as visitors of all ages eagerly sampled the dishes.
“I got pempek and a rice box. It’s so much fun here—there are so many booths,” one visitor said.
Another guest expressed gratitude: “Thank you so much to President Prabowo, this is really meaningful—and fun too.”
“Thanks, Mr. President. Respect!” another attendee shouted, raising a hand in salute.
The presence of hundreds of small businesses underscored the government’s commitment to making Independence Day more than just a symbolic celebration. It was also a chance to boost the people’s economy. Through this collaboration, small vendors were able to showcase their products to a broader public, while residents enjoyed free meals in a festive, communal spirit.
