Jakarta — Excitement soared as President Prabowo Subianto joined the 80th Independence Day Carnival at Jakarta’s National Monument (Monas) on Sunday (Aug. 27). From morning until night, thousands of people thronged the venue, taking part in a day packed with parades, cultural performances, and a public concert.
Albaina Nasution, a visitor from Medan, said she was astonished to see the president stay throughout the festivities.
“The event was amazing, and the crowd was full of enthusiasm. It was so grand, like a carnival where people were even given gifts along the way. What’s extraordinary is that the president mingled with the people and joined in every part of the celebration,” she said.
For Albaina, this year’s Independence Day was a moment of renewed hope.
“I wish for a better Indonesia—more peaceful, more harmonious, and more united in the years ahead,” she added.
Christine, another visitor who arrived in the late afternoon, said she did not want to miss the vibrant atmosphere.
“I came at around five o’clock. The 80th Independence Day celebration was so much fun, especially with all the concerts,” she said.
She described her joy at seeing the president up close.
“He seemed so friendly. I even got the chance to say hello since I was standing right at the front,” Christine recalled with excitement.
As part of the younger generation, Christine also expressed her hopes for the country.
“I just want Indonesia to keep moving forward, to be more successful, more advanced. Wishing nothing but success for our nation!” she said with enthusiasm.
