Jakarta — After a 15-day diplomatic tour abroad, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto returned home on Wednesday (July 16) with a string of achievements, including new investments and strategic partnerships.
Upon arriving at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta, President Prabowo outlined the results of his back-to-back visits to several countries and international forums.
The tour began with an official visit to Saudi Arabia, where Prabowo met with Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (MBS). During the meeting, Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s interest in attracting more Saudi investment, and noted that the Kingdom welcomed further cooperation.
“I also proposed the establishment of a permanent Hajj village for Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. In principle, they had no objections, though of course, technical planning must follow. I’ve already been briefed on the preliminary plans, and I hope it goes smoothly,” the President explained.
Next, Prabowo traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the BRICS Summit—Indonesia’s first as an official member of the bloc. There, he held bilateral talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, highlighting the enormous potential for cooperation between the two nations, particularly in trade and environmental matters, given that both countries are home to the world’s largest tropical rainforests.
From Brazil, Prabowo headed to Brussels, Belgium, where he met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The two leaders concluded a major agreement on the long-awaited Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
“Now our goods can enter the EU with zero tariffs—and vice versa. It’s a symbiotic relationship. They have technology, science, and capital. We have minerals, commodities, and markets. It’s a perfect fit,” Prabowo stated.
In addition to official talks, Prabowo also held informal meetings with officials in the United Kingdom to discuss global issues such as Gaza and Ukraine.
Continuing on to Paris, Prabowo attended the Bastille Day military parade as a guest of honor—the first time in history that an Indonesian President, or any Asian leader, has led the honorary defile on France’s National Day.
Following the parade, Prabowo met with French President Emmanuel Macron to discuss strategic cooperation in defense and economic sectors.
“We were honored to lead the parade on France’s National Day. It’s unprecedented—a country from Asia leading the Bastille Day defile. It shows they see us as an important nation,” said Prabowo. “I also had a lengthy and very productive discussion with President Macron on various matters. After that, I made a brief stop in Minsk, Belarus.”
