Jakarta – President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, announced that he had held a bilateral discussion with U.S. President Donald J. Trump. The announcement was made through a post on Prabowo’s official Instagram account, @prabowo, on Wednesday (July 16).
In his statement, Prabowo said the two leaders agreed to strengthen trade ties between Indonesia and the United States.
“I just had a very good conversation with President Donald Trump. We agreed to bring trade relations between Indonesia and the United States into a new era—one that is mutually beneficial for our two great nations,” Prabowo wrote in the caption.
Beyond trade matters, President Trump also shared a warm message for the people of Indonesia.
“President Trump sends his warm regards to the people of Indonesia,” Prabowo added.
The statement came just hours after Trump posted on Truth Social that he had made a “great deal” directly with Prabowo regarding trade tariffs. Trump announced a reduction in import tariffs on Indonesian goods to the United States, from 32% down to 19%.
In return, Indonesia has reportedly committed to purchasing several key American products for domestic use, including agricultural commodities such as soybeans and wheat, as well as Boeing aircraft.
While full details of the agreement have yet to be released by either government, statements from both leaders signal a positive outlook for bilateral trade relations. Trump also indicated that more specifics will be announced in the near future.
