Bogor— For 12-year-old Muhammad Hasbi, a student at People’s School—an educational initiative launched by President Prabowo Subianto—school is more than a place to learn. It’s a path to repay his parents’ love. His greatest dream? Sending them on a pilgrimage to Mecca.
“My number one goal is to send both of my parents on the Hajj. Then the whole family, if possible. I want to make them happy. When I grow up, I want to make them proud,” Hasbi said earnestly during an interview at People’s School Sentra Terpadu Inten Suweno, Karadenan, Cibinong, West Java, on Monday (July 14).
Hasbi is among the selected students admitted into People’s School, a fully government-funded boarding school for children from low-income families. For Hasbi, it meant a huge relief for his struggling parents.
“It’s supposed to ease the burden on my parents. And it’s great—it’s all free. Plus, I get to make more friends,” he said with a smile.
Asked what he enjoys learning most, Hasbi replied enthusiastically, “A lot. Computers, and basically all the subjects. I want to learn everything.” Still, his favorite subject is Physical Education.
Though cheerful, Hasbi admitted some subjects are tough. “Are there any difficult ones?” the interviewer asked. “Yes. English, Sundanese, and Arabic,” he replied. “English is the hardest. It’s really hard to memorize,” he added.
Even so, Hasbi remains determined. He wants to master English as a way to improve himself. “Yes, I want to. So I can get better,” he said simply.
Hasbi’s dreams aren’t grandiose—but they are heartfelt. “Anything is fine, as long as I succeed,” he said, smiling.
Before the conversation ended, Hasbi expressed sincere gratitude to President Prabowo for making People’s School possible.
“Thank you, Mr. Prabowo, for creating People’s School. Now kids like me can go to school. Thank you,” he said respectfully with a bow.
