Jeddah — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has strengthened cooperation to improve services for Indonesian pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah during his state visit to Saudi Arabia on July 2–3, 2025.
President Prabowo was formally received by His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah on Wednesday (July 2), local time.
During their official meeting, Prabowo conveyed deep appreciation for the Saudi government’s commitment to serving Muslims from around the world, including pilgrims from Indonesia.
“Indonesia expressed its profound gratitude for the Saudi Government’s dedication in serving the Two Holy Mosques and pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah,” read the joint statement issued after the talks.
Prabowo also commended the close cooperation between the two countries in ensuring safe and comfortable arrangements for Indonesian pilgrims.
“Indonesia praised the effective coordination that has ensured the comfort and well-being of Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims,” the statement continued.
Both parties agreed to further strengthen and improve the quality of services provided to Indonesian pilgrims in upcoming Hajj seasons.
“The two sides discussed efforts to enhance services for Indonesian pilgrims,” the statement affirmed.
Beyond Hajj-related issues, the state visit included a series of other strategic agreements aimed at deepening bilateral relations. At the inaugural session of the Saudi–Indonesia Supreme Coordination Council, jointly chaired by the Crown Prince and President Prabowo, the two governments endorsed the Council’s governance framework and adopted several recommendations to expand cooperation across sectors.
The leaders emphasized the importance of advancing partnerships in trade, investment, energy, and technology. Over the past five years, bilateral trade has totaled approximately USD 31.5 billion (IDR 502.7 trillion), making Saudi Arabia one of Indonesia’s top trading partners.
In addition, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia signed a series of agreements and memoranda of understanding involving the private sector, with a total value of around USD 27 billion (IDR 437.8 trillion). These investments are expected to create jobs in Indonesia across energy, industrial development, and environmentally sustainable technology.
The leaders also underscored the significance of cooperation in health, particularly regarding medical requirements for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, as well as the development of the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries and health workforce capacity.
In the context of international affairs, Prabowo and Mohammed bin Salman expressed their shared commitment to supporting peaceful resolutions of conflicts in the region, including reaffirming their backing of a two-state solution for Palestine and strengthening the role of international humanitarian organizations.
