Karawang — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto has called on his ministers to accelerate the nation’s industrial downstreaming efforts, stressing that the public expects swift and tangible progress from the government.

“Downstreaming will continue, and we will accelerate the momentum. We must move quickly—our people expect rapid progress,” Prabowo said during the groundbreaking ceremony for Indonesia’s integrated electric vehicle battery industry ecosystem in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday (June 29).

In his remarks, Prabowo emphasized that downstream industrial development reflects the serious commitment of Indonesia’s leadership to achieving self-sufficiency. He noted that this ambition has been part of Indonesia’s long-term vision since the nation’s early years.

“The aspiration for downstreaming has been with us for a very long time—from President Sukarno to President Joko Widodo, who has taken concrete steps to advance this agenda in the 21st century,” Prabowo stated.

He also underscored the importance of international cooperation, citing Indonesia’s partnership with China as a breakthrough model for producing environmentally sustainable energy.

“Our collaboration with China represents, in my view, a remarkable breakthrough—one that allows us to generate renewable and environmentally friendly energy, which is now a global imperative,” he said, drawing applause from the audience.

President Prabowo was accompanied at the event by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Also in attendance were West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Chinese Ambassador to Indonesia Wang Lutong, Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, Minister of Public Housing Maruarar Sirait, Minister for State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir, Danantara CIO Pandu Sjahrir, Danantara COO Dony Oskaria, and Pertamina President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri.
