Karawang — President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto emphasized that solar power will play a crucial role in the country’s path toward energy self-sufficiency.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Integrated Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem—developed by a consortium consisting of ANTAM, Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC), and Contemporary Brune Legion (CBL)—in Karawang, West Java, on Sunday (June 29), Prabowo outlined his vision for Indonesia’s energy future.
“One of the key components of our journey to energy self-sufficiency is electricity—electricity generated from solar energy. And the key to solar energy is batteries,” Prabowo said.
He stressed that the success of Indonesia’s development hinges on how well the nation can manage its vast natural wealth and build meaningful partnerships with global strategic allies.
“From this initiative, we can produce the kind of renewable, environmentally friendly energy that the world is striving for,” he stated.
Prabowo expressed confidence that Indonesia possesses the potential to achieve energy independence in the near term.
“I’ve been advised by experts that our nation truly has the capacity to become energy self-sufficient. And by my own calculations, it won’t take long. Five years—at most six or seven—we can achieve it,” he affirmed.
He also extended his gratitude to all parties involved, including partners from China’s CATL, and underscored the importance of regional cooperation amid rising global tensions.
“This collaboration, I believe, is of great importance and benefits all sides. While much of the world is mired in conflict, our region remains a zone of peace,” Prabowo concluded.
