Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto warmly welcomed Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim upon his arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Friday.
The two leaders, long-time friends with a history of close ties, appeared visibly at ease with each other. They departed the airbase together in the same vehicle, heading directly to the State Palace.
Upon arrival at the palace grounds, Prime Minister Anwar was greeted with a vibrant ceremonial welcome. A cavalry unit of 75 horse-mounted guards accompanied the Malaysian delegation, underscoring the occasion’s grandeur.
The national anthems of both countries—“Indonesia Raya” and “Negaraku”—were performed in succession, lending a solemn and respectful tone to the welcoming ceremony.
Adding to the festive spirit were some 400 elementary school students waving Indonesian and Malaysian flags in unison, lining the palace courtyard. Outside the palace gates, middle school students also gathered to greet the visiting head of government.
Following the official reception, President Prabowo and Prime Minister Anwar held a closed-door bilateral meeting.
The leaders’ talks focused on strengthening strategic cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the areas of economic partnership, regional security, and the protection of their respective citizens.
The visit also served as a powerful symbol of the enduring brotherhood between the two neighboring nations, which continue to promote regional harmony amid shifting global dynamics.
