The President, a Child, and a Box of Lego: Zhenya’s Innocence Charms Prabowo in Russia

St. Petersburg — Amid the high-level diplomacy and tight schedule of President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Russia, a simple, heartwarming moment stole the spotlight.

It happened when a young boy named Zhenya—full name Evgeny Fedorov—the son of Ambar Rukmi, an Indonesian citizen from Solo now living in Russia, captured the President’s attention and melted his heart.

The moment unfolded as President Prabowo arrived at his hotel in St. Petersburg, where he was warmly greeted by members of the Indonesian diaspora, students, and migrant workers. Among the welcoming crowd were two young brothers. One of them, Zhenya, looked up at the President and innocently asked for a Lego set.

The next day, that seemingly small wish came true. A box of Lego—simple, yet deeply meaningful—was delivered directly to Zhenya. For a child his age, it was more than a toy. It was a once-in-a-lifetime gift from the President of Indonesia, one that would become a cherished memory for years to come.

“My deepest gratitude to President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, who granted my son Evgeny Fedorov’s spontaneous request for Lego,” said Ambar, his mother, in a post on her Instagram account @ambarruk2910 on Saturday (June 21), as she shared a photo of the gift.

Ambar said she was moved by the gesture and held out hope that the moment would inspire her son in the future.
“I hope this becomes a beautiful memory he will carry with him as he grows up. And I hope that one day Zhenya can give back to our beloved country, Indonesia,” she said.

Holding the Lego box in his hands, Zhenya joyfully declared, “Lego from President!” and shouted, “Prabowo Indonesia!”
“Do you like it?” Ambar asked.
Zhenya nodded, then eagerly asked if he could open the special gift.

A brief encounter, born from a President’s kindness, ended with a child’s laughter and joy.

During this state visit, it wasn’t just political diplomacy that was fostered—it was also a small, deeply human story that will live on in the memory of an Indonesian family far from home.
