Malaysia – Tears streamed down the face of Marsinem, an Indonesian citizen from Lampung who has lived in Malaysia for 35 years, as she finally met President Prabowo Subianto in person. Amid the warm welcome extended to the President during his visit to Kuala Lumpur on Sunday evening (May 25), Marsinem was one of many who couldn’t contain their overwhelming emotion.
She had arrived early—well before 5 p.m.—just to secure a spot close enough to see, and perhaps meet, the leader she had only seen on television.
“Alhamdulillah, I got to shake hands with Mr. Prabowo. Truly, thank God. I’m so, so happy. Honestly, I’m overjoyed,” Marsinem said, her eyes brimming with tears and a smile that never faded as she recalled the moment.
For her, the encounter wasn’t merely about being in the presence of Indonesia’s president—it stirred deep feelings of longing for her homeland. Since the night before, she had been praying that she might get the chance to meet Prabowo in person.
“My heart is so full. Since last night I was hoping and praying for this. And Alhamdulillah, it came true. Oh God, thank You,” she said, choking back tears.
Now working as a domestic helper, Marsinem represents thousands of Indonesians living and working in Malaysia, separated from their families in Indonesia. She voiced a heartfelt hope for the future of the country under President Prabowo’s leadership.
“I want to see our country keep progressing, becoming better. I hope the future brings more prosperity,” she said sincerely.
Before parting, Marsinem once again expressed her deep gratitude to the President for a moment she would never forget.
“Welcome to Malaysia, Mr. Prabowo. Thank you so much. Alhamdulillah, oh God,” she said.
