Serpong — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ending the nation’s reliance on imported energy, asserting that true sovereignty lies in energy self-sufficiency.
Speaking at the opening of the 49th Annual Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) Convention and Exhibition at Nusantara Hall, ICE BSD City in Tangerang, Prabowo addressed a room filled with global oil and gas executives and foreign ambassadors.
“A nation’s sovereignty is guaranteed by its ability to feed its own people—and its ability to meet its own energy needs,” Prabowo declared before an audience of domestic and international energy leaders.
He emphasized that energy security is a crucial pillar of national sovereignty, and achieving it must be a top priority.
Prabowo also highlighted early achievements of his administration, now six months in, including the first oil and gas production from the Forel and Terubuk fields in the Natuna Islands. The new operations are contributing an additional 20,000 barrels of oil per day and 60 million standard cubic feet of gas per day—entirely developed by Indonesian talent.
“This is not merely a mathematical or technical milestone—it is a critical marker in our ongoing journey toward national energy self-sufficiency,” he stated.
The President also touted recent gains in food reserves, noting that Indonesia’s rice and corn stockpiles are now at their highest levels since the country’s founding.
“We have more rice and corn in government warehouses than ever before in our history,” he reported.
Prabowo did not shy away from addressing persistent bureaucratic barriers that hinder investment and slow energy production. He called for regulatory reforms and warned that officials obstructing progress would be replaced.
“Any official unwilling to simplify regulations will be removed. We have many capable young people waiting for their turn to lead,” he asserted.
In closing, Prabowo extended an open invitation to both domestic and international investors, pointing to Danantara Indonesia—a strategic investment vehicle launched by the government—as a key partner in advancing national energy projects.
