Jakarta — President of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto delivered promising news on the state of national food production during his speech at the Fourth Congress of Tunas Indonesia Raya (TIDAR), the youth wing of the Gerindra Party, on Saturday (May 17) in Jakarta.
Prabowo declared that Indonesia is on a clear path toward food self-sufficiency — a long-standing national aspiration — as the country records its highest-ever production of rice and corn.
“In a short amount of time, we’ve proven that we are moving toward food self-sufficiency,” Prabowo said at Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta. “Beyond expectations, our rice and corn production has reached the highest levels in the history of the Republic of Indonesia.”
He also revealed that the government’s rice reserves have hit a historic peak — an achievement he credited to the administration’s efforts to strengthen national food security.
Production gains have not only been broad-based but also substantial at the regional level, with some areas posting a 10% average increase. South Sumatra, in particular, saw a remarkable 25% surge in rice production.
“We’ve turned swamplands into rice fields. We will transform our lands into fertile farmland,” Prabowo declared.
Speaking before the party’s youth cadres, Prabowo emphasized a message of hope and national potential. While acknowledging the many challenges facing the country, he expressed confidence in Indonesia’s future — provided it remains governed with integrity and led by those firmly committed to the national ideology of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.
He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving public welfare, pledging to reduce poverty and end hunger across the country.
“We will reduce poverty, and we will eliminate hunger from the Republic of Indonesia,” Prabowo concluded.
