Jakarta — President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, stated that he would not seek re-election if his administration fails to deliver meaningful results within the next five years.
He made the remark in response to enthusiastic calls from Gerindra Party cadres supporting a two-term presidency during the Fourth Congress of the party’s youth wing, Tunas Indonesia Raya (TIDAR), held at Hotel Borobudur in Central Jakarta on Saturday (May 17).
“Thank you, my fellow cadres, for calling for ‘Prabowo two terms.’ But I must correct you — we haven’t even completed our first year in office,” said Prabowo.
He acknowledged the goodwill behind the sentiment but urged party members to keep such aspirations to themselves. He stressed that the future of his presidency lies in the hands of God — and ultimately, his own self-assessment.
“Let that intention stay in your hearts. As I’ve said before, whether I serve two terms or not will be decided by the Almighty — and by myself. If I feel that I haven’t achieved what I’ve set out to do, I will not run again for President of the Republic of Indonesia. I sincerely ask you not to expect me to seek another term,” Prabowo asserted.
He went on to say that his current focus is to fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to him — to serve the nation to the best of his ability.
“As a fighter, I only want to do what’s best for our people and our country. My message to TIDAR: continue your struggle on the right path. Always remain loyal to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia, the red-and-white flag, Pancasila, and the 1945 Constitution,” Prabowo concluded.
