Jakarta — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto paid his final respects to Mgr. Petrus Turang, Bishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Kupang, whose remains were temporarily placed in Jakarta. On Friday afternoon (April 4), Prabowo visited Jakarta Cathedral to honor the late bishop.
Reflecting on Mgr. Petrus Turang’s legacy, Prabowo described him as a role model who dedicated his life to serving the less fortunate.
“He was a good man, always thinking positively. And he always worked for the people in need—that’s what I remember about him,” Prabowo said at Jakarta Cathedral on Friday.
Prabowo spent approximately 10 minutes paying his respects, arriving at the cathedral at 3:38 PM local time.
“I came to pay my respects because I knew Mgr. Turang well. We met often, and there was also a family connection,” Prabowo said.
“As fellow human beings, we must honor those who have passed. I extend my condolences to his family,” he added.
At the cathedral, Prabowo was received by Jakarta Archbishop Ignatius Cardinal Suharyo, who later escorted him to his vehicle after the visit.
