Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto launched the first Gold Bank service in Indonesia on Wednesday (26/2) at The Gade Tower, Central Jakarta. Prabowo said the existence of the gold bank is important as an effort to boost Indonesia’s economic growth.
The gold bank service is carried out by Pegadaian and Bank Syariah Indonesia. According to Mr Prabowo, the gold bank will boost gross domestic product (GDP) by Rp 245 trillion and create 1.8 million new jobs.
‘We hope that this will increase our gross domestic product, if I’m not mistaken, it can add Rp 245 trillion and will open up 1.8 million new jobs,’ Prabowo said.
With the gold bank service, gold processing from upstream to downstream will be optimised domestically. In addition, Prabowo said the gold bank will also save foreign exchange and can be an instrument to control monetary stability through gold liquidity.
Prabowo continued that currently gold production in Indonesia has increased from 100 tonnes to 160 tonnes in a year. Therefore, it is time to improve the service ecosystem to optimise the country’s gold reserves.
‘We hope this will accelerate savings and increase our gold reserves,’ he said.
‘Indonesia, which has the sixth gold reserves in the world, will for the first time have a gold bank. I thank all those who worked hard to achieve this day,’ Prabowo said.
The emergence of gold bank services in Indonesia began with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Regulation Number 17 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of Gold Bank Business Activities. (RR)
