President Prabowo Subianto expressed his confidence that Indonesia will be able to achieve its 8 per cent economic growth target. The optimism was conveyed during his speech at the National Consolidation Conference of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry at The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Jakarta, Thursday, 16 January 2025.
‘I am only in my third month of leading the government of the Republic of Indonesia and the more I study the state of our economy, the more I feel confident, I feel optimistic, I believe, I am sure we will achieve and maybe even exceed 8 per cent growth,’ President Prabowo said.
In order to achieve this, President Prabowo reminded that economic management must be carried out efficiently and based on logic and accurate calculations. He emphasised that waste and inefficient practices must be stopped.
‘It is impossible for any organisation to survive if expenses are greater than income. Therefore, I am determined to lead an efficient government,’ the President said.
In his speech, President Prabowo also highlighted the importance of the private sector’s role in national development, particularly in infrastructure. The President emphasised that he did not stop infrastructure projects but rather handed over some projects to the private sector to make them more efficient.
‘Some say I stopped infrastructure projects, it is not true, I did not stop. I changed the infrastructure, I will leave most of it to the private sector to build,’ the President said.
In addition to infrastructure, President Prabowo revealed that food self-sufficiency and renewable energy programmes are also top priorities of his administration. He is optimistic that these programmes can be achieved ahead of schedule.
‘Our target is getting clearer, food self-sufficiency we planned for 4 years, it turns out that we will be surprised long before 4 years we have food self-sufficiency. Energy self-sufficiency as well, we are not many countries in the world that will have green energy, we will have complete and substantial renewable energy,’ the President explained. (RU)
