President Prabowo Subianto received an audience with the Chairperson of the Central Leadership of the Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Khofifah Indar Parawansa, and the board of the Muslimat NU at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 14 January 2025. During the audience, Khofifah reported various programmes and services that have been run by the Muslimat NU.

President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for various initiatives run by the Muslimat NU, which are considered to directly touch the needs of the community at the grassroots level. “He gave extraordinary appreciation because these small things are thought of by Muslimat NU. Because of its wide network, we hope the effectiveness of this programme will be more significant,” Khofifah said in her statement to the media after the meeting.

On the occasion, Khofifah introduced two new programmes that will be launched at the XVIII Congress of Muslimat NU, namely Mustika Mesem (Muslimat Cantik Mengentaskan Kemiskinan Ekstrem) and Mustika Darling (Muslimat Cantik Sadar Lingkungan).

The Mustika Mesem programme aims to alleviate extreme poverty through simple activities carried out at the branch level, such as recitation. Khofifah cited the initiative of bringing eggs to recitation as a form of direct contribution to the extreme poor and stunted children.

“So this is one format of how the Mustika Mesem programme can provide greetings to those who are indicated to be stunted but also provide greetings to those who in the data in the village are categorised as extreme poor,” Khofifah said.

Meanwhile, the Mustika Darling programme promotes environmental awareness through waste management carried out by Muslimat NU cadres in various regions. Khofifah explained that Darling cadres in each recitation will sort waste and clean up garbage in the neighbourhood.

“If every branch, every sub-branch and every branch does the same thing and others can follow suit, I think the problem of waste accumulation in various regions will be minimised,” Khofifah said.

Khofifah also explained that the meeting also discussed preparations for the XVIII Muslimat NU Congress which will be held on 11-16 February 2025 in Surabaya. According to Khofifah, the congress will be attended by thousands of delegates from all over Indonesia.

“We visit the President to ask for his hospitality at the opening of the Congress which, God willing, will be held on 12 February next month, attended by 532 branches, then 11 special branch leaders, 37 PW (Regional Administrators),” Khofifah said. (RU)
