Cairo — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi jointly called for a ceasefire in Palestine following their bilateral meeting at the Al Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo on Wednesday (December 18).
El-Sisi highlighted the shared perspectives between Egypt and Indonesia, particularly on conflicts in the Middle East. He noted that both leaders are committed to advocating for a ceasefire in Palestine.
“We discussed global developments, especially those in the Middle East. We had extensive conversations about the situation in the region, including Syria,” El-Sisi said.
“We are united in urging a ceasefire in Palestine and supporting a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine,” he continued.
Echoing El-Sisi’s sentiments, Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment, alongside Egypt, to ending the conflict in Palestine.
“We agreed on the importance of achieving peace and have called for an immediate ceasefire for the sake of humanity,” Prabowo stated.
Prabowo also praised Egypt’s efforts to facilitate humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza and Palestine.
“We deeply appreciate Egypt’s initiatives in negotiating and delivering humanitarian assistance to Gaza and other parts of Palestine,” he remarked.
In addition to advocating for Palestine, the meeting also focused on strengthening bilateral ties. Prabowo expressed his desire to enhance Indonesia’s relationship with Egypt through collaboration in areas such as trade, culture, and education.
