Prabowo Subianto Highlights Shared Commitment Between Indonesia and Egypt to Promote Moderate Islam: Emphasizing Tolerance and Peace

Cairo — Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto underscored the shared perspective between Indonesia and Egypt in advocating for a moderate interpretation of Islam that upholds tolerance and peace.

Prabowo made this statement during an official press conference following a bilateral meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the Al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace in Cairo on Wednesday (December 18).

“We agree that the majority of our Muslim population seeks to uphold and promote moderate Islam,” Prabowo stated.

He elaborated that the concept of moderate Islam refers to an Islam that embodies tolerance and rejects suspicion and hatred.

“Our shared belief is in a moderate Islam, and we must safeguard and promote this to combat Islamophobia. We must eliminate suspicion and highlight that Islam, at its core, is a religion of peace,” Prabowo emphasized.

Prabowo also expressed gratitude for the strong cooperation between Indonesia and Egypt over the years.

“Egypt holds a special place in the hearts of Indonesians because it was the first country to recognize Indonesia’s independence during our struggle against colonialism. For Indonesia, Egypt is considered a vital nation,” he added.
