Lima, Peru – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto began his official visit to Peru with a breakfast meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the Swissotel in Lima on Thursday, November 14, at 9:30 a.m. local time.

President Prabowo personally welcomed Albanese upon his arrival at the hotel lobby, greeting him warmly with a handshake before walking together to the meeting room.

At the start of the meeting, Albanese congratulated Prabowo on his recent election as Indonesia’s president in the 2024 general election.

“It’s great to meet you here this morning, and I would like to once again congratulate you on your election,” said Albanese.

The Australian Prime Minister highlighted the importance of the strong security ties between Indonesia and Australia, particularly during Prabowo’s tenure as Indonesia’s Minister of Defense.

“This further underscores the significance of the security relationship that has developed between our Defense Ministers, including yourself, prior to your inauguration,” Albanese noted.

Albanese expressed his desire to continue fostering cooperation with Indonesia across various sectors, particularly in defense and economic development.

“Of course, our economic relationship is also critically important, with increasing collaboration between our two great nations,” he added.

In response, Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Albanese, calling him a trusted friend of Indonesia and emphasizing the significance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

“I am delighted to have a good friend in Australia who continues the excellent relationship we’ve enjoyed. I hope this relationship grows even stronger in the future. Thank you, Prime Minister,” said Prabowo.

The breakfast meeting, which lasted approximately an hour, concluded with Prabowo escorting Albanese to his vehicle in the Swissotel Lima lobby.
