Biden Assigns 6 Senior Officials to Attend Prabowo Subianto’s Inauguration

Jakarta — U.S. President Joe Biden has announced that a delegation of six high-ranking officials will be sent to Indonesia to attend the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto, which is scheduled for Sunday, October 20, 2024. The delegation will be led by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield.

According to a statement from the White House, Linda Thomas-Greenfield will be accompanied by five other officials, including U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia, Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir, and Don Graves, the Deputy Secretary of Commerce. Also joining the delegation is Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, representing the Department of Defense.

Other members of the delegation include Daniel J. Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, and Mira Rapp-Hooper, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania at the National Security Council.

President Biden had previously congratulated Prabowo through an official letter, dated March 12, 2024, delivered personally by U.S. Ambassador to ASEAN Yohannes Abraham. In the letter, Biden praised Indonesia’s commitment to democracy and expressed anticipation for the official results of the election.

“I would like to congratulate the people of Indonesia for a successful election—a testament to our shared commitment to democracy—and to you (Prabowo) for your lead in the presidential vote count. I look forward to the official results,” Biden wrote in the letter.

Prabowo’s inauguration as the next President of the Republic of Indonesia will take place in Jakarta on October 20, 2024, as per the official results of the 2024 Presidential Election announced by the General Elections Commission (KPU). The inauguration ceremony will be conducted by the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR). (RR)
