Today, we witness a truly remarkable democratic process.
All stakeholders have played their roles in the democratic process.
The Supreme Court and Constitutional Court have fulfilled their roles in the judicial sphere. The House of Representatives has executed its legislative duties, while the media and civil society have also actively participated as key democratic actors.
Amid the push and pull and differing opinions, we see our greatness as a nation
Earlier today, the House of Representatives declared that the Regional Election Bill (RUU Pilkada) has not been passed. If the bill is not ratified by August 27, the House will adhere to the most recent ruling, which is the decision of the Constitutional Court.
The government remains in the same position as before, which is to follow the existing laws. Unless new legislation is enacted, the government will continue to abide by the current regulations.
The message we can take away is that we must all fulfill our roles in this democracy with the public interest in mind. The government hopes that there will be no disinformation or slander that could incite unrest or violence. It is crucial that we maintain a conducive environment so that public interests and the economy are not disrupted.
