IKN – Minister of Defense and President-elect of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, met with two Indonesian athletes who won gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics during the 79th Indonesian Independence Day celebrations held in the Nusantara Capital, East Kalimantan, on Saturday (17/8).
The athletes were Veddriq Leonardo and Rizki Juniansyah. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Veddriq secured a gold medal in men’s speed climbing, while Rizki brought home a gold medal in the men’s 73 kg weightlifting category.
During the warm meeting, Prabowo had a brief conversation with both of Indonesia’s accomplished athletes.
Prabowo remarked that the achievements of Veddriq and Rizki were the fruits of their years of hard training.
“All your years of training were not in vain,” said Prabowo.
Veddriq and Rizki expressed their gratitude for the positive response and appreciation shown by Prabowo.
They also did not miss the opportunity to capture the moment by taking a selfie with Prabowo. Prabowo even held the gold medals won by Veddriq and Rizki during the photo.
As a memento, Prabowo gave each of the accomplished athletes a pin. “This (pin) is my last as Minister of Defense,” concluded Prabowo.
