Jakarta – President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, spontaneously stood up when his name was mentioned by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during the state of the nation address at the annual session of the MPR RI and the joint session of DPR and DPD RI at the Parliament Complex on Friday, (16/8).
During this moment, Prabowo remained standing until Jokowi finished delivering his message and prayers for his upcoming leadership.
Furthermore, while standing, Prabowo was also seen occasionally clasping his hands together, bowing as a sign of gratitude for the prayers and hopes conveyed.
“On October 20, 2024, allow me to hand over this baton of leadership to Mr. Prabowo Subianto. Also allow me to entrust all the hopes and dreams of the Indonesian people, from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island, from the peripheries, from the outermost regions, from villages, and from city centers to you,” said Jokowi.
A similar moment occurred at Jokowi’s inaugural speech when he first became president in 2014. Prabowo, who was seated in the second row of guests, immediately stood up and saluted Jokowi when his name was mentioned.
Similarly, at various speech moments, Jokowi has always mentioned Prabowo’s name, which was always met with Prabowo standing and saluting. Most recently at the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali, May 2024, Jokowi introduced Prabowo who responded with the same respectful gesture.
