Jakarta — Indonesian Minister of Defense and President-elect for 2024-2029, Prabowo Subianto, revealed that he is currently being mentored by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in preparation for his presidential duties. Prabowo shared this insight while representing Jokowi at the Geoportal Satu Peta 2.0 and White Paper OMP Beyond 2024 event held at St. Regis, South Jakarta, on Thursday evening (18/7).

During his speech, Prabowo explained that he was instructed to speak on Jokowi’s behalf, delivering remarks prepared by the President himself. “I was tasked to represent President Joko Widodo, and essentially, what I am conveying are notes and pointers from him,” said Prabowo.

He further mentioned that these arrangements are part of his training by Jokowi to ensure he is not shocked by the responsibilities that will come after his inauguration. “I think the President is training me so that I am not too overwhelmed once I am officially inaugurated, God willing,” Prabowo stated.

Prabowo also praised Jokowi’s leadership style, particularly his proactive approach in preparing his successor, which he views as exemplary. “This is one of the leadership lessons we receive: a leader who is gracious and prepares their successor,” he continued.

Recently, Prabowo has frequently been asked by President Jokowi to participate in important cabinet meetings and sit next to him. “Lately, I’ve been included in almost all cabinet meetings, seated next to the President,” Prabowo remarked.

The event was attended by numerous ministers, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto, Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, Interior Minister Tito Karnavian, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif, Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Abdullah Azwar Anas, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Secretary of the Cabinet Pramono Anung, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces Agus Subiyanto, and Chief of the National Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
